The South's Defender Wal Memorial Monument at the Calcasieu Parish Courthouse was severely damaged by Hurricane Laura in 2020. The statue of the Confederate soldier was knocked off along with part of the column. The Calcasieu Parish Police has not even begun to repair it now going on 4 years after the Hurricane. The South's Defender Monument, dedicated in 1915, is the oldest and beloved war memorial honoring the local soldiers of America's largest and bloodiest war. Please contact the Calcasieu Parish Police Jurors and urge them to completely repair and restore this monument without any further delay.
For fallen soldiers, for veterans, for heritage -- that's what The South's Defenders Memorial Monument stands for, nothing more, and nothing less. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury will vote today, August 13, 2020, on whether or not to remove it based on false dishonorable allegations and propaganda. Please call or email your Calcasieu Parish Police Juror today at PHONE: 337-721-3500, FAX: 337-437-3399, EMAIL: administration@calcasieuparish.gov, and ask him to vote NOT to remove the monument. It is exactly where it belongs. Thank you.
